De regerende EM-medalister (v-h): Samuel Contesti (sølv), Brian Joubert (guld) og Kevin van der Perren (bronze).
Den mest spændende disciplin vil uden være herrernes disciplin, hvor Evgeni Plushenko og Stephane Lambiel vil konkurrere i deres første ISU mesterskab siden deres comeback.
Den regerende olympiske guldmedalist Evgeni Plushenko har vundet hele 8 medaljer ved EM, deraf var 6 af guld. Han har indtil videre oplevet et succesfuldt comeback med en overbevisende sejr ved Rostelecom Cup, og selv en knæskade midt i december kunne ikke forhindre ham i at vinde de russiske mesterskaber i overbevisende manerer. Hans spring er så pålidelige, at en plads på podiet er så godt som en selvfølge.
Den regerende europamester Brian Joubert har haft en svingende sæson med en 4. plads ved Trophée Eric Bompard, dernæst guld ved NHK Trophy og til sidst en fodskade, der tvang ham ud af Grand Prix Finalen og de franske mesterskaber, så det er umuligt at vide hvordan han vil klare sig. Hans resumé er dog imponerende: Joubert er den eneste herre i konkurrencen, som har slået Plushenko, og så har han også vundet en medalje ved hver eneste EM, han har deltaget i (8 gange).
Dette bliver Stephane Lambiels første konkurrence med et konkurrencedygtigt felt, så presset er højt. Den regerende OL sølvmedalist har overraskende nok aldrig vundet EM. Lambiel har udtalt, at skader stadig plager ham, og indtil videre i sæsonen har han ikke udført en tripel axel, hvilket vil koste ham dyrt, især i det korte program. Lambiel vil i vanlig stil debutere et nyt langt program, her til musikken fra Verdis opera "La Traviata".
Tomas Verner vandt EM i 2008, men har sidenhen været plaget af MEGET svingende resultater. Sidste gang var ved Grand Prix Finalen, hvor han endte på en sidsteplads efter at lavet en "Verner" (aka udføre en quad og et par tripelaxeler, derefter single resten af springene). Til hans forsvar led han af influenza, så måske han er blevet bedre nu. Hans landsmand Michal Brezina slog ham faktisk ved de nationale mesterskaber, hvilket straks gør Brezina til underdog til en medalje.
Samuel Contesti og Kevin van der Perren vandt hhv. sølv og bronze sidste år, men med dette dybe felt virker en medalje meget usandsynlig. Franske Yannick Ponsero er også underdog til medalje, hvis han dog kunne udføre to solide programmer i én konkurrence.
